Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.newarkcastleandgardens.co.uk.

This website is run by Newark and Sherwood District Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Known accessibility issues

We are aware of the following accessibility issue on this website:

  • The ‘Plan your visit’ page includes a static map image showing areas of Newark Castle and Gardens that are currently closed. This image does not contain alternative text that conveys the same information and cannot be interpreted by screen readers or other assistive technologies.

We recognise that this may present a barrier for users who rely on screen readers. Once the castle reopens, we plan to replace this image with an interactive map that will be fully accessible and provide equivalent information in a format that can be used by all visitors.

If you need details about the closed areas in an accessible format in the meantime, please contact our customer service team and we’ll be happy to help.

Feedback and contact information

If you need information on this website in a different format like an accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille please contact our customer service team in the first instance.

We’ll consider your request and get back to you within five working days.
