Newark Castle Gatehouse Project receives additional funding

Newark and Sherwood District Council has received additional funding from the UK Government’s Local Regeneration Fund, subject to cabinet approval. Newark Town Board, who are the recipients of the government funding, has allocated the additional money to the District Council to invest into the Newark Castle Gatehouse Project, enabling the scheme to be completed and ensure the long-term protection of one of the town's most important historic landmarks.

For nearly 900 years, Newark Castle has stood watch over the River Trent, shaping and being shaped by England’s history. In this newly researched talk by volunteers from the Gatehouse Project, explore the castle’s story from its medieval beginnings under Alexander the Magnificent and the dramatic final days of King John, through the upheaval of the Civil War and its later life as a Victorian pleasure garden. The talk also looks ahead, revealing the plans that will carry this iconic landmark confidently into the 21st century.
