Plan Your Visit

Due to the Castle Gatehouse Project, Newark Castle and Gardens are not currently accessible to explore. There is a limited area of the grounds available to visit, which will enable access to Newark Registration Office in the Gilstrap as well as the public toilets via a step-free bonded gravel path.

The opening times for this area are:

Summer months: 8am – 6pm
Winter months: 8am – 4pm

Dogs are welcome in the grounds if kept on a lead.

Newark Castle is expected to reopen late 2026, and we can’t wait to welcome you to what will be an exciting and interactive experience for the whole family! Ticket prices will be released when we reopen to the public. There will be brand new opportunities to get involved with volunteering, learn, and explore this historical location.

Accessibility at Newark Castle

We’re committed to making Newark Castle more accessible than ever before.

Newark Castle For All is a group of local volunteers with lived experience of a wide range of disabilities, who are helping us to design and review accessible features throughout the project. We are building in accessibility as much as possible, with features such as a lift to the first floor, tactile models and artefacts, audio alternatives to written text, and wheelchair-friendly gradients.

Our gardens have also been thoughtfully designed with smooth, wheelchair-friendly paths and additional seating areas - perfect for moments of rest and reflection.

As the project moves forward, we’ll share more details to help you plan your visit when we reopen.
